Favourite moments this year and Big Day Out

This weeks blog post is about my favourite moment this year and what the Big Day Out could be. Also what has been my favourite Big Day Out since I've been at School.

My favourite moment this year was the E.O.T.C week because we did lots of fun activities while missing a whole week at school. I cant really say much because I would be saying the exact same blog post that I did about E.O.T.C week. It was pretty fun when we went to El Rancho except from the Tubing. it was so cold it wasn't funny, it felt like it was -10 degrees. But the best part of  El Rancho was the free time at the end and we played a huge game of tag.

For the big day out I don't really know where we are going (well no one does). One of my guesses is an indoor sports place or inflatable place. My favourite Big day out was last years one when we went to an to jungle-Rama and did indoor sports and bowling.

   Bye, that's my blog post!!

Year 8 Swag

Next year I am going to be a Year 8 and I am going to talk about what I want to achieve and do next year.

Next year when I am a year 8 I want to get a Merit and Excellence badge for academic. I would also like to get another Science Badge and I might do forensics. Next year I want to get a key role in the Production because it will be my last year at St Ben's and my last St Ben's production for me to act in. Another thing I want to do is try to get into Northern Zone athletics and Swimming. It would also be cool if there was another sports fest because I found it really fun this year when I did dodge-ball.

Some of the things I am looking forward to is the production and the task system because I'll have a bit more knowledge about it than the Year 7's next year. Also I am looking forward to dodge-ball every Friday because the  Year 8's will wreck the Year 7's next year. Some things I might find challenging is trying to get tasks done when the production is on and when we are building up to it.

Book Week!!!

Last week was Book Week. We all had to do really fun activities like find golden tickets with clues to find them. Also there was a book Character Parade and Kate de Goldi came in and that is what I will be talking about.

On Wednesday Kate de Goldi came into talk about her life and what it is like being an Author. Kate went to a small school when she was young In the South island. She said she always loved writing books and plays. When Kate was young she loved writing plays for Her class mates to play out.

The book Quiz was another highlight because since I am a House Captain I organised it and ran the Year 1-2 quiz with James. It was great fun to organise the questions and choose the teams.

The book parade was my favourite event in book week. It was my favourite because I got to see everybody dress up in their Book Characters and I got to judge the costumes and hand out some certificates. I also enjoyed it because I got to dress up as a soldier and the uniform I wore was my Grandfathers which he used when he was in the army.

Favourite book when I was young!!!

My favourite book when I was young was The Adventures of Tintin "The Calculus Affair" By Herge.

The reason why I like this book is that there is lots of action and they are trying to escape from a Tank. It isn't really a story it is more of a comic but still qualifies for a book. This comic is based in Germany and  is about Tintin, Captain Haddock and Snowy chasing after two gang members who have Kidnapped Professor Calculus.

When I read the comic I was 6 years old and this was the second Tintin comics I read so this one interested me to read the rest of the comics.

AFL (Aussie Rules) (Australian Football League) We should be talking a bout Rugby!!!

Last week room 12 and Room 11 went down to the courts in the morning  on Thursday to learn some skills about AFL. On of the men who was an instructor use to go to St. bens when he was a kid and his last year was in 2001. We will be going down to the courts on Thursday for another 5 weeks.

Some catch phrases they taught us to help with skills was 'laces away from faces' and 'point your toes where you want the ball to go' and 'arms like an arrow' when holding the ball. last week we learned how to pass by kicking it. The certain type of kick is called a drop punt which is where the cross on the ball face up and down and you kick it with your toes pointing to where you want to kick. The ball travels through the air with it spinning backwards and upright. Another thing when passing is to try and not make it bounce otherwise it could just bounce anywhere. But if you kick a clean kick right into the chest there is less chance of dropping it. Some new things I learnt about AFL was that The field is 180metres long and 270metres wide. I didn't learn much because I knew some stuff already.

That's was my blog post for this week about skills about AFL come back next week for another blog post.

My favourite Sport

My favourite Sport, but first things first we had to write a blog post on our favourite something and I have chosen Cricket, my favourite sport.

Cricket is a sport that requires two teams to play a match and one team will bat and the other field and bowl. When batting you have too try and score the most runs in the certain amount of overs depending if it is a Twenty20, Test Match or ODI. Also you need to run between the wickets quickly and score boundaries either hitting a six or four. When bowling you need to try and get the batsman out by either bowling them when the ball hits the stumps or make them get a edge on the bat, and hope the wicket-keeper will catch the ball, to get the batsman out. Also try and lure the batsman to put the ball in the air so then the fieldsman can catch it. When fielding you have to be awake and aware where the ball is going. To be a good fieldsman or even a normal one you need to know how to catch, throw long distances and be accurate, fast around the field and good judgement. There also has to be two umpires one at the bowlers end wickets and one at square-leg. Square-leg is a position in line on the left (if you have a right-handed batsman) otherwise the other way around if there is a left-handed batsman.

I like this sport because I have been playing it since I six years old and it is a very fun sport 'cause you can have a great time with friends. Also because you have team mates that help you and you help them and we all stick together. Also we have a great day at the end of the game and practice.

My Future Job!!! Cricket Player or Dentist!!!!

Hello, and welcome to my Blog and I am going to tell you guys my future job *hopefully*.

If you read my title it would help you understand what I want to be when I Grow up, and also the picture tells you a bit. I want to be a cricket player which I've been wanting to  be since I was Six years old. The subjects I would take at College to become a Cricketer would probably be Sport / P.E. I would also have to trial to get into the First XI then I could get a chance of getting into the Fire Birds, then hopefully the Black Caps. I would also take Health because you learn about body parts and muscles and etc. I would take that subject because of stretches / warming up, if something happened to me and if I pull a muscle.

I also want to become a Dentist. The thing is I would have to study to become a Dentist for a while but I don't care I want to be one. Whenever I think of a Dentist it is a peaceful Dentist or a psychopath Dentist, hopefully the Peaceful one. The subjects I would have to take would be health and maybe science. Another subject could be biology which helps which body parts as well. The reason why I want to be a Dentist is because you earn lots of money and I can help people have better teeth if they need it. I also like working with people and making them feel better.

So there it is my two future jobs * even though I had to have one* I would do. Come back next week for another blog post. What's your favourite food?

A Day at the Movies

The second Sunday of the holidays Jarden, Oli and I went to Reading cinemas to watch the move The Martian. The Martian is about six people who went to Mars to gather information and rocks from mars. But while there out collecting samples a storm, they knew it was coming, came but it was worst and they had to leave mars but they left Mark Watney (The Martian).

On the day it all started when Jarden, Oli and I met at Simila Crescent train station and we caught the train into town. When we arrived it was around 12 o'clock and we walked through town and then got lunch. We arrived at the cinemas around 12:15 pm and got our tickets. After that we had lunch in the food court at Reading Cinemas but by the time we finished lunch the movie didn't start for another hour. So we chat and just walked around and also looked at the mini aquarium. When got some snacks to have while watching the movie we had to what for the theatre to open. When we were sitting down to wait for the movie to start Jarden spilt half of his popcorn on the ground.

After the movie we were talking about it so much because it was the BEST MOVIE EVER!!! When we got to the food court we all got a frozen coke each which was so good.
YOU SHOULD DEFENITLY GO AND SEE IT!!!

My favourite Poems!

Hallo!!

This weeks blog post about our favourite poem we have made up this term. I have chosen my two emotion Poems.

Shame

Shame is awkward and Embarrassing
it feels enclosing
like being trapped in a box
people laughing and joking about you
like being in the dark
people talking behind your back

Joy

Joy is happy and exciting
when you score a 50 in cricket
when you help someone sick, poor, or injured
A family member recovering a sickness
feeling fresh and free
A time with your parents

That's my blog post for this week goodbye!

An Arty Artist

What we have to do on our blog this week is to choose an Artist and find some information about Him or Her and choose two paintings to talk about. The Artist I'm doing is Vincent Van Gogh.

Vincent Van Gogh was born on the 30th of March 1853 Zundert Netherlands. He had a Mother named Anna Carbentus van Goph and a Father named Theodorus Van Goph. His full name was Vincent Willem Van Goph. As a boy he went to weekly masses with his parents and was a catholic. He also had three sisters Willemina, Elisabeth and Anna.

This Painting is The Starry night Painting by Vincent Van Goph and it was done in 1888. He painted this when He was in His bedroom and looked out His window. He painted about 20 deferent variations of the Starry Night. What I like about this is that he hasn't painted it like it is a photo he has done it with his imagination and made stars into suns and also made that wave affect in the sky. Also the colour because he has used quite light colours which makes it stand out.

This painting is the Café Terrace at Night. Vincent did this painting also in 1888. He painted this when He was walking down the village with his painting gear and came across this. He thought it was a magical and delicate picture so he Painted it and thought it was really good. He then Put it in a Exhibition in 1891 and people thought it was really good. What I kike about it is that He has painted it so well it feels like your there and it feels very warming. The colours He has chosen makes it stand out and makes it lively.

That's My blog post for this week comeback next week for another.

DodgeBall for Sports Fest!!!

Today two teams from St. Benedict's went to Kilbirnie Rec Centre to play dodge-ball. There were 6 schools there from Raroa to Marsden and St Bens of course. Here is how we went and more.

I was in the boys team for dodge-ball with Oli, Andrew, Fraser, Liam, Jesse, Mahon, Riley, Jo and Harry. I think we all really enjoyed it even though we got in  the face a bit. The things we did well at was teamwork and counter-attacking the other team had thrown all their balls and had nothing left to use except from dodging us. The things with teamwork was that we all communicated and would throw all at the same time to have more of a chance to get them out. Also with the counter-attacking because we knew we had a chance to get them out. And in the end we came Third.

The venue worked all right but the games could've gone a bit longer because there would only be about four rounds if both teams were really good and the game was only 12 or 14 minutes which went really quickly. But if the games went longer we would have to wait longer to play a game which would suck because it seemed for ever to wait for your game.

Things we would need to work on would be throwing a bit faster because most of the opposition would have a really good arm and it would be hard to dodge. Also blocking because most of the outs were you would try to block the ball coming towards you with another ball but then it would nick the ball and hit you. Also throwing lower so we wouldn't get caught.

That's my blog post for this week hope you enjoyed it.

Flag Debate that costs millions

Hello everybody reading this. Today's blog post is about what four flags should go against the current New Zealand Flag. These four flags are the four I have chosen to go against the current flag but I still want the original flag. This is because it's the 100th anniversary of World War 1 and Gallipoli and all the Soldiers fought and died under this flag. Also there is History behind it. I think you would have to be blind to think its the Australian Flag. Also because it is costing $26 million which is a disgrace.
This flag is called the Black Jack I chose this flag because it is sort of like the original flag but has a bit of  Maori design on the Union  Jack. I also like it because it's not too plain but not too complicated and busy. This is why it is my favourite that made the Top 40.The man who designed this was Mike Davison which was the only one of His designs that made the Top 40 ideas.
This is my second favourite flag because it has some of the original colours like white, blue and red. Also because it has the original Southern Cross with the white outline and red inside which I like a bit better than only the white that the Black Jack has. I also like how the Fern is white not a different colour but I wouldn't mind silver as the colour of the fern. Also because It splits up the red and blue. The man who designed this flag was Kyle Lockwood who designed  the next flag I'm going to talk about also a two other flags that got into the top 40 which one just had a black background and black and blue.

This is another flag designed by Kyle Lockwood which I like quite a bit because it is similar to the one I just talked about. Some information I gathered about these two flags were that the red stands for the blood lost at Turkey and France in World War 1 and the bits coming off the fern stalk symbolises the ethnic diversity in New Zealand. I like this flag because of the meanings in it and also the black because every New Zealand sports team has at least one bit of black on their uniform.

This is an interesting flag because it has a Southern cross with a white outline and a red inside also has a bit of black and green which are some fine colours. The Koru is alright I wouldn't brag about but then I wouldn't say its bad because it makes it look like the main point and picture of the flag is the Koru. But I think it would be fine as our national flag because its much better than any other entries. This flag was design by Dominic Carroll and this is called Moving Forward.

ART IS FUN!!!!!!

Hello people reading this post I'm here to write about Art and why I enjoy it and other reasons. Also what I need to improve on when doing art and what we should do for the art exhibition.

Some art skills I need to improve on would be self-portraits because I don't get the shape right for the head and features on the face. Also because I cant really get the colours and shades right.

The sort of art I enjoy is doing sketch's of things like animals and buildings and maybe nature. This is because I enjoy drawing things except from my self.

Who I would invite to Dinner

The Person and Character I would invite to Dinner would be Rambo and Richard Hammond. Two of my favourite people. Here are some reasons why I would invite Rambo and Richard Hammond to Dinner.
Rambo is one of my favourite fictional people because he is this former S.A.S Soldier from the American Army. Rambo is played by Sylvester Stallone who also played Barney Ross in the movie The Expendables and and Rocky in the movie Rocky. But Rambo is my favourite because he is really tough and also really stealthy which is why I would invite him to Dinner. Some questions I would ask him would be "how are you so stealthy and able to use camouflage so well"? I would also ask "How the heck do you keep in shape so well"? Another question I would ask would be "What is your favourite part in Rambo First Blood"? The final question would be "What was your favourite scene in Rambo Three"?

One of my favourite people is Richard Hammond because He is a former presenters on Top Gear,(my favourite TV show). The reason  I would invite Richard would be because He loves Porsche and their cars and so do I. Also because we both hate Jeremy Clarkson because of the stupid opinions Jeremy makes about Porsche. Another reason I would invite Richard is because we both hate slow drivers alot because you can never get anywhere on time and you get so frustrated. Some questions I would ask Him would be "What is the best part of being on TV"? Also "What is your favourite Top Gear challenge". Also "what is the fastest car you have ever been in"? Another question would be "Did you ever want to be the Stig"? The final question would be "What is your favourite food"?

That was this weeks blog post on who I would invite to Dinner. Come back next week for another post.

A great time with my Dad

Hello everybody it is Henry here and I'm here to tell you about a good time with a grandparent or other family member. Today I'll be telling you a time with my Dad when I caught my first ever fish.

The time when I caught my first ever fish was about three years ago on Petone Wharf around 11:00 AM.

It all started when my Dad, Mother and sister all went out to Petone so the girls could go shopping and have a look round the shops. But my Dad and I would go to Petone wharf and do some fishing with a hand-line we had got in Taupo a few weeks before. When we started fishing my dad and I actually started fishing from the beach which we found out was pretty much impossible because when we casted it out it went no where. After about 5 casts we decided this would be the last one and on that one my Dad casted out and I accidently let go of the handle and rest of the line so it went flying into the sea. And with no thought at all I rushed into the sea with my clothes on and everything and chased after the line. When I got back to my Dad I was dripping wet and getting cold so luckily we had a towel in the boot of the car  to dry me off with. When we got to the wharf, my Dad baited the hook and threw it out into the sea. I would slowly bring the line in and throw it back out into the sea. After around ten times of doing this I saw my mother and sister coming down the wharf to let us know they were ready to go home. I asked Dad if I could put the line out one last time. So we did. As Dad and I were tidying up our gear the fishing line jolted. It suddenly jolted for a second time and then tightened up. I then slowly brought the line and on the hook to my surprise was a bright orange fish called a gurnard. I couldn't believe my luck!

As we were driving home we decided to pop into my grandparents house to show them the fish I had caught and to also give it to them to have for dinner. That evening Granny rang me how yummy the Gurnard was.

That's my blog post for this week come back next time for another one of my posts!!!!!

What I did in the holidays!!!!!!!!!

Hello people reading this it's Henry here, and I'm here to tell you about my holiday two weeks ago. In the first week I went up to Raumati with my Mother Suzie and my Sister Charlotte to visit my Grandfather Tom. While I was up there I had to do plenty of shopping with my mum and sister which was so boring. But when we got back I  played some tennis with Charlotte because my Grandfather has a tennis court on his property. A couple of days later I went horse riding and it was really fun.

The next week I really just hang around home but my uncle Tim and my cousin Clementine came down from Auckland to visit us. While they were down here my Mum, Charlotte and I took Clementine and Granny to the Cable Car museum and we also went on the cable car. When we got back from the cable car I stayed at Granny's place with Clementine and Charlotte so we could watch the rugby (Argentina vs All Blacks) that night with my Uncle and Granny.

That's my blog post for this week come back next time.

P.S  What is your favourite Day of the week and why.

Sports at Nairnville

Every Thursday Room 11 goes down to Nairnville to do sport for an hour and there are usually two or three instructors telling us what to do. The first half of the term we did gymnastics and skills for gymnastics which was really boring (no offense to people who liked doing it). After gymnastics we did Rippa Rugby and Soccer for two weeks which I thought was so much better than doing gym.

The sport I enjoyed the most was Rippa Rugby because I do rugby as a sport in the weekend and it is a very energetic sport. I also like rugby because people have parts to play so the team all works out and that helps us win games.

I didn't learn many skills in gymnastics because I'm not interested in it and that makes it boring and not very interesting. But I did learn more skills in rugby and soccer about short and quick pass', team work and to trust the players in your team. But in soccer I learnt a bit more about defence and attacking the ball.

Some other sports I would like to do next time would be AFL, NFL, cricket, basketball, nukenball and many more.

German!!!

Hallo  (Hello)
Guten Morgan (Good Morning)
Guten Tag (Good Afternoon)

This Term the Year Seven and Eights have been learning how to speak German and a bit about Germany's (Deutschland) history. German has been very interesting and I have enjoyed it a lot. To learn how to speak German we have watched a video series called Ja! But you say it like ya. We have learnt how to say days of the week, months, numbers, greetings, countries and much more. I probably would keep learning German at college if they teach it or I might do French at college. But it all depends on when I'm Year Eight because I'm only a Year Seven. Learning how to speak German might be useful if I ever go to Germany, because I would be able to communicate to locals and understand what their saying.

How the EPIC thingy works and what it means!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HHHHYYYYPPPPEEEE!!!!

In this blog post I will tell you about St Benedict's school values. These values are Empathy, Perseverance, Integrity and Creativity.
E= Empathy
P= Perseverance
I= Integrity
C= Creativity
These are four very important words in our school ( St Benedict's ). Creativity and Perseverance are my two values I think I have because I always persevere in sports when I'm injured or I have a goal I want to achieve.  Creativity is also another value I have because I love doing art and creating things at home. The values I find hard are Empathy and Integrity but I find Empathy the hardest.

Book Review HHHHYYYYPPPPEEEE!!!!

A book I have read lately is Scorpion Sting by Justin D'ath who was born in New Zealand but lives in Aussie. This book is one of 12 books in the series Extreme Adventure. The boy in the books is called Sam Fox who was caving with his elder brother Ben who is a caving and safety expert. The adventure starts when Ben gets injured ( but actually a massive rock lands on him). The plot on this book is that Sam has to find help in the Australian outback to rescue his injured brother so he decides to drive the Jeep to get help.  But Sam runs into a lot of trouble on the way to help. The dumbest thing he did was when he thought that the Australian Army that was training in the desert was a terrorist group working under cover. So he try's to also tell people there's a terrorist group in the outback.

A funny quote from this book is said when his brother Ben is being rescued the Australian Army, Air Force and Navy came to help him. " Did you think the Titanic needed helping again. I would recommend this book to children 7 - 13 years old.

EVOLUTION, ADAPTATION AND THE GALAPAGOS ISLANDS HHHHYYYYPPPPEEEE!!!!

Galapagos Islands
Image result for marine iguana

For the last half term, the three intermediate classes have been learning about the Galapagos Islands, Evolution and Adaptation. Also how animals got to the Galapagos Islands and evolved or adapted to the environment. But before that, how the Islands got created. The Islands got created by explosions under the sea and the explosions pushed up hot molten rock. When the Islands got old they start falling under their own weight because the earths core couldn't support it and it will start collapsing. and also in the future.

Image result for plane
Some interesting things I have learnt about the Galapagos Islands is that the Marine Iguana use to be a Land animal but is now a animal that can swim in the sea and breath on land. Also the Giant Tortoise is one of the biggest animals in the Islands. Another amazing thing is that there is a finch that can use a stick to lure grubs out of a tree.

The next topic I would like to learn about would be Planes and aerodynamics or Cars and the history of Cars. Also transport before Cars were invented.
